Maybe I just see conspiracies where there are no conspiracies but I”m sure Envirophone is funded by the communication industry to ruin the trade in the 2nd hand mobiles. Buy up the old phones and then force comsumers to buy the newest ones.
It makes sense, doesn’t it?
There’s one more thing I want to say about this advert; there’s an old media studies point about the use of male and female voiceovers in adverts. It says that women are used to provide the details of the product, implying likeability and aesthetic value, while the men are used to imply trust and permission to purchase.
This Envirophone advert is a pretty good example of this; the men are used to discuss money and the women the ease of use. It’s especially notable at the end with the addition of the male voiceover, clearly added on at the end, in case male viewers aren’t convinced.
It’s not especially sinister, much of it is down to a reading rather than editorial intent, and it’s not too terrible a service as to be subconciously evil – it’s just always a good idea of how these things work to convince us.
It’s not especially sinister but it’s a fucking awful advert; was it made by a media studies group as part of their GCSE?
Also, the logo looks very similar to http://www.ebuyer.com/ who also sell mobile phones, any link do we think?
I think it is bloody sinister, especially the guy that says “Sooooo last year”
It feels like I’ve entered a parallel nightmareish universe where the world is inhabited by interminable fuckwits. I had to wonder for a split second if it was just me that found it so gut wrenchingly hard to sit through.
Not enough hate being directed towards this ad in my opinion.
Other contenders:
Confused.com
Ultralase or some kind of eye surgery thing
Heh, this came on in the pub last week when it was half time in the football and there were at least three shouts of “Oh fuck off with your bloody phones”.
Made my evening.
“the men are used to discuss money and the women the ease of use.”
Bullshit. The following lines are read by women:
– “dosh”
– “readies”
– “get your cheque in the post”
– “a hundred pounds”
Did you watch the advert before writing about it?
whats the name of the black haired girl with curly hair in the recent ad where she trys to pay for some clothes with her phone then at the end uses her shoe as a phone?
its really annoying me!
thank you<3
I think these phones find their way back to the second hand phone market. I would not send a phone in the post….many are still valuable. Sell it privately or give them to a solid organisation like OXFAM……the money will get to deserving people that way.
